South Swindon MP Robert Buckland is inviting schools in the town to sign up and become ‘Care Home Friends’ as part of his local Campaign to Tackle Loneliness.
‘Care Home Friends' is a fantastic new scheme to bring together children and older people living in care homes.
'Become a Care Home Friend' is a 10-week challenge that offers schools a programme of activities to foster understanding about older generations, raise awareness of care homes and build community links.
The challenge was created by Care Home Friends and Neighbours with the goal of connecting young children with older people living in care homes.
The project is funded by Dunhill Medical Trust and the #iwill Fund and is a £54 million joint investment between The National Lottery Community Fund and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
The challenge is aimed at children between the ages of 5 and 14 and includes activities that have been developed by teachers and are embedded in the National Curriculum.

“I have been working with Swindon Seniors Forum for over four years now, on a local Campaign to Tackle Loneliness, with the aim of bringing together key organisations in and around Swindon to discuss the excellent work that is already taking place locally, as well as discussing what further can be done to tackle loneliness.
“Care Home Friends is an excellent project for schools to become involved with and will connect pupils with older people in the local community.
I am also very happy to assist schools so that they can make long-term links with their local care home.
