“I am delighted to be taking on the new Climate Change portfolio and look forward to putting in place a strategy that results in a net-zero carbon Council by 2030.
Whilst this is a new role it is continuing and building on previous cross-party work that has taken place over the last couple of years, and continues to establish and deliver initiatives around what will be the big net carbon contributors like sustainability, air quality, education, waste and transport for the benefit of Swindon. We also need to protect both our natural and built environment including wildlife protection, heritage and conservation, and biodiversity and trees.
I appreciate we have a comparatively small contribution to make in the global picture but hope that residents and businesses will join me in playing our part to avoid the impending climate emergency we are all facing if we do nothing."
